Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Ottawa’s Barrhaven community after the bodies of a man and a woman were found on Tuesday morning.
According to officials, they were called at 1:00 a.m. to a residence on Pheasant Run Drive, in the older part of the fast-growing neighbourhood. Once there, they found the two older adults.
Virginia Theoret, 82, was killed, and then Kurt Theoret, 84, called 911 and subsequently took his own life, police said in a release.
“This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends affected,” officials said.

12 homicides in Ottawa
The murder-suicide is the 12th homicide of the year in the city.
It has been a violent streak in the nation’s capital. Over the last several months, a number of people have been killed, two of which were femicides.
Just yesterday, May 26, police said a missing Ottawa woman’s body could be in a landfill.
Police have charged a 35-year-old man with the alleged murder of a missing woman. The Ottawa man faces charges of second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.
Investigators say 54-year-old Rachelle Desrochers has not been found, but they have reason to believe she was killed and that her body may be in a landfill
